Prehistoric Period

The Prehistoric period was during 17,000 BC, and was the first time shelter was used for humans. It was the first time there was any meaning in space by decoration. There were three main geographic locations that had the materials used to make these primitive homes. These locations were; the arctic regions(igloo),and Sahera desert(Matmata underground houses), and caves. In these homes decor was rarely used and as for design, there was none. They had the basic necessities in their house, and the only decor used were bowls carved out of wood and weaved blankets and rugs. When patterns were used, which was rarely, they were strictly ornamental. They did however have purposeful meanings with tribal loyalties and religion. For those who lives in caves, they did draw on the cave rocks with charcoal and ochre pigments. The first example of an actual home was in 2,000 B.C. and was located in Skara-brae-Neolithic village in Scotland. This house included built in furniture including beehive cupboards, large shelves, hearth, sleeping platforms. This time period people werent concerned with decor, but more with
